Hellooooooooooo 2018!

Dust away a few cob webs, polish up a few door knobs, throw a fresh coat of paint on the wall and this blog could be something again.

Two years! I just blinked and two years disappeared since I last wrote here. I could have sworn I got at least one entry written in 2016, but the date on the last post tells no lies. I can account for 2017 to some degree, but not 2016.

I’d like to say I’ve been out writing the next great novel that will certainly be a bestseller and will have have movie rights optioned the day it is published. Alas, that isn’t the case. Life has just happened. Last year was a bit of a bumpy ride. It started with mom passing away at the end of ’16 followed by several bouts of illness in a row(cold, sinus infection, flu spaced out from December ’16 through February ’17). After that I think I just checked out for a bit and rode the waves of life.

Not that I haven’t kept busy or been doing meaningful things. I’m more heavily involved in serving at church. I applied and was accepted to the  Fund For the Arts NeXt program for 2018 and I’m about half way through that. I’ve finally gotten around to starting on my home lab to learn more about computer network management and security. I recorded 52 more episodes of Idiosyncratic Transmissions and worked with a graphic designer to update the logo to something more professional looking.

I haven’t been writing though. I haven’t been playing music. I haven’t been reading as much as I would like to. Though I’ve made some pretty big dietary changes due to staring down the barrel of adult onset diabetes, I haven’t lost as much weight as I want/need to lose.

The important things remain though: My wife, friends, family. I made a “resolution” to be present more in all of my relationships last year and I feel like I was actually more intentional in spending time with the people I love. So yeah, I blinked and two years disappeared, but I feel like the time wasn’t wasted.

I don’t know that I’ll do any better with writing this year. I’m hoping to, if for no other reason than to process what I hope to be learning with the lab setup and other lessons that may come along. I want to update the list. Then I want to actually do the things on the list and write about my experiences doing them. Not because I think I’m the end all be all of life experiences or that you should feel particularly interested in me. I’m not a celebrity, major or minor. I’m just another, albeit unique, voice in the chorus that the internet has become.

To that end I hope to bring some entertainment, some thought provoking ideas, some educational(if sometimes trivial) facts, and whatever else that comes to mind to brighten your day.

Or you won’t see anything again to 2020, it’s really a 50/50 proposition at this point.
